64th International Cycling Race Dookoła Mazowsza
Ladies and gentlemen!
On July 14th in Teresin the 64th edition of WDM will start. It is the oldest cycling race in Poland. In prestige and rank it is second only to Tour de Pologne. Polish cycling was born in Mazovia. In 1886 the Warsaw Cyclists’ Society was established. In 1925 the first cycling stage race was held. In Poland, the race around the Warsaw Voivodship was pompously called a small Tour the France by some of the press at the time. The winner was Józef Lange, an Olympic medallist from Paris, who in 1928 belonged to the co-founders of the Legia Warsaw cycling section. For several decades, the animator and later organizer was editor Janusz Strzałkowski. In 1997 it was reactivated on the initiative of Mieczysław Jachacy by the cycling section of CWKS Legia and since 2000 it has been organised by the Mazovia-team association. The race Dookoła Mazowsza (WDM) is a sports event with a rich history. It has permanently inscribed in the calendar of the most important cycling events in Poland and Europe. More about the race in the coming days.
